Actually, the needed time for establishing the new relations, gathering the information and
spreading awareness is finished in February 1999, when CU have gotten a direct support of the new Government through the new established National Comittee 2000 (consisted of few experts for some problematic areas).
So, at the moment, the national Y2K actions and Y2K responsibilities in Macedonia are shared between Co-ordination Unit and National Comittee 2000, with full awareness of the problem and sense of
responsibility.
According to the CU's Planning proposal for Y2K, Macedonia received grant of $100.000 for rising the national awareness in December 1998.
The national WEB page www.y2k.GOV.mk is established in December 1998, which is gathering the information and spreading awareness among the general public. It is permanently maintained.
At the same time the stakeholders database for monitoring the Y2K situation in 180 crucial institutions and organizations were developed also.
The database for 21 most essential institutions
of high risk and vital interest for the citizens and the state, is also established in 1998.
A lot of meetings with appointed managers from all of these institutions and few presentations
were held which resulted very positively for increasing Y2K readiness. The methodology and strategy for y2k problem is defined and it is reachable on the national site, too. The helpful brochure for smaller enterprises
is written and published.
It is asked for professional readiness to help from some Macedonian enterprises and vendors specialized for computer equipment, embedded systems, and firms for
application development. Their help is appointed in National Web side.
On the other hand, National Comittee (consisting of experts from all areas) is taking under revision Y2K Projects in the
essential structures, according to the developed National Action Plan. Also the NC reanalyzes measurements and planned activities by Y2K teams in these crucial institutions, monitors the development, prioritization and
risk migration of Y2K activities, so that any unpredicted actions cannot take place.
The awareness campaign is in evaluation, the planned seminar for the Y2K problem on National level is
going to be held in 8-9 May.
Y2K is identified as manager, financial and technical problem. Summarizing from that aspect, it can be said that:
- The national coordination bodies for Y2K problem in Macedonia at the moment are the Coordination Unit for Y2K and the National Comittee 2000 with full sense of responsibility of the Y2K problem and with full
support of the Government.
- The global managers structure in the mentioned crucial institutions and enterprises is developed.
- The technical resources are basically not the major problem. The big part of the institutions or enterprises have their own trained technical staff.
- Beside lack of technical resources the biggest problem is the financial problem. The founds we have for Y2K are far than enough.
